4.0 First Infusion Treatment (chemo)

Good morning everyone. The day has arrived, we were up at 5am, well, to be honest, we were up well before 5am. We ventured downstairs to start our daily routines, for me, I start everyday with a dose of Symprove, followed by porridge and hot water. Busy bee Nisha prepared our daily health juice, our packed lunch and then she had her juice and today she went for a bowl of muesli and a mug of hot tea.

After breakfast, a quick shower for both and we were ready for our 7am departure. Nisha is driving to hospital today as I now don’t want to and can’t pick up any bugs or viruses.

Door to door took us approximately an hour. Nisha had pre booked a spot at a close by car park.

So now, we’re waiting in the huge chemo lounge to be seen at 8.45am, not long to wait.

Let me briefly tell you about the weekend and yesterday.

The weekend was emotionally exhausting, we managed to climb out of the emotional hell well but the weather didn’t help, raining all the time. We did some household chores to take our minds off Friday. Saturday was a total washout which ended up with us watching Wimbledon, Netflix and just keeping busy.

Sunday was similar but we did manage a nice 4 mile walk, we’re both missing our exercises but the walk helped. It didn’t take long for the rain to return!

Monday was much better, we were so much more positive and ready to tackle Tuesday. We managed another 4 mile walk which was good, I’m sure we could do a much longer walk but that’s now all dependent on the treatment after effects.

The thing that works for us is positive thinking, so positive that it edges on selfish positivity. We’re learning to train our thoughts and change them at a whim. When it works, wow, it’s absolutely magical. Good thing is that we’re getting good at it!!!

Back to today. It’s nearly time to check in, get a nurse allocated to me, they’ll take my weight, BP and oxygen level. Then the fun starts.

I’ve checked in, no nurse has yet been allocated but the fun has started…

They’ve taken 6 tubes of blood. Who is my nurse???

I’ve been allocated a lovely nurse, she’s explained what’s going to happen and what I need to do if there’s a problem. I’ve just taken my pre treatment tablets…

2 gulps and they were gone!!!

Now I have to wait for an hour before the next stage of treatment. It’s going to be a long day.

I’ve started reading this book:

But I’m also people watching, it’s 10am and most of the seats are still empty, by the looks of things, I think there’s only new treatment starters who come in early.

The hour wait has come and it’s time for the 5 minute injection to my stomach.

A little uncomfortable but was ok. Now I have a 4 hour wait until the next treatment. Time for a coffee and homemade banana bread.

Homemade banana bread

I’m feeling good!!

I’ve ordered lunch, I’ve decided on salmon, boiled potatoes with greens and hollandaise sauce.

Patients get free food and drinks, not their guests so Nisha has to venture down to the reception cafe. We’ve also brought snacks and lunch with us anyway. Always prepared!!

The nurses work sooo hard, nothing is too much trouble and they are forever smiling. HUGE RESPECT!!!

My late morning snacks…

And not too long after, lunch arrived…

All things considered, lunch wasn’t too bad, it added to my protein intake. Nisha had my smoked salmon corn cake sandwiches so we’re both fed and watered.

Another 2-3 hours to go…

I’m drinking lots of water…all I need now is the whisky which replaces the water 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Whisky with a Havana at the end of my treatment plan!!! I have one attendee…who else is up for it??

Take time to have a laugh…

4 hours have passed, I’ve been given my take home tablets…

No names!!!

Now the next injection and then I can go home!!!

The time has flown by, we’ve people watched, debated, talked, oh yeah, Nisha with 2 cups of tea is like Nisha after 2 glasses of wine!!!!! 😜

Ouch…now that injection was like a bee sting and I can still feel the stinging!!! Nurse says we can go home and they’ll see us next week!!!

It’s absolutely hammering down with rain, hey, it’s summer time in the UK, what else do you expect!! 🤣🤣🤣

Running is not an option so we briskly walk to the car park, pay our fee for the 8 hours we have parked for and off we set for home…in the pouring rain!!!

Can’t really see how hard the rain is coming down.

It’s now easing off, just hope we miss the rush hour.

Home sweet home!!! All the meds have been unpacked and allocated to a ‘pre’, ‘morning’ or ‘evening’ box and the routine starts again this evening.

Relaxation is now on the cards…this is me after all of the treatments today…

Puncture wound here, there and everywhere!!!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my journey today, I’m thinking about doing a small paragraph each day when I’m not receiving treatment just to vent the thoughts in my head.

Dinner in about an hour and then some tv.

Good night all ❤️🙏🏽
